Here are some photos I took at DUMBO, Bryant Park, and on the streets. These photos each have their own definition of style whether it is the architecture or paint of a building, or the way the subject presents his or her self. These photos say a lot to me and hopefully you will enjoy them. check it out.

American Idiot

Recently I saw the musical American Idiot. Yes, I loved the singing, the acting, the excitement. But one thing that stood out to me was how the performers were styled. With Green Day being the band of the 90s, it only made sense to dress the cast in the grunge or punk styled look of that decade.
here the cast is seen in the typical grunge look.
The outfits of the cast helped depict the characters struggles and personalities and inspired me to look more into the fashion of the 90s. Fashion is always following a cycle of trends, what was once "in" years ago is now finding its way back to the runways with a different twist.

Here are some trendy looks inspired by grunge.

One designer who has taken some of the edgy and grunge looks of the 90s and incorporated them into her new lines is Gwen Stefani with her brand L.A.M.B. See clip below to explore some of L.A.M.B's most recent looks.

Gwen creates a Fall/Winter line for 2010 and 2011 based on her own style taste. Here she mixes vintage, military, and punk. Her final collection beautifully displays a polished grunge look and a chic urban edge.

Shoes Shoes Shoes!

Shoes always add the finishing touch to an outfit. Here are some of my favorite heel styles.

Embellished Heels:

The blue heels on the left are YSL. The bold blue color is perfect for and outfit with colors of black, white, or grey. These colors will draw attention to the shoes and elongate your look. The fur adds an extra touch of fierce and completes a sexy look.
The shoes on the right are from McQueen. Although not as wearable as the YSL shoe, I love the detail McQueen adds to his shoes. The embellishments bring a creative feature to a look and bring a more artistic style to your outfit.

Here are some more affordable and toned down heels:

Sam Edelman- about $190
steve madden- $129

The embellishment on the Sam Edelman heels bring more attitude to your outfit and makes your look more confident. The Steve Madden heel has a perfect about of shimmer making your outfit glamourous and flirtatious.

Another heel look I like is the oxford heel:

this Louboutin heel adds drama to an outfit. I like the mix of the daring cheetah print and the classic oxford style.

A more affordable version: Nine West $109

Fashion With Good Cause

TOMS shoes helps give back. Their personal statement: with every pair you purchase TOMS will give a pair of shoes to a child in need. Buy a pair of TOMS shoes and help a child in need while staying stylish.

Keira's TOMS add brightness to her outfit and bring out some of the small red details in her dress. Scarlett's TOMS are a classic and chic navy that complete her casual look and help make her red bag really pop. Liv wears a navy pair of TOMS that help simplify her outfit while still completing a hip look.

I personally like the silver TOMS. This subtle amount of shimmer is a great way to spice up a daytime outfit while still staying comfortable.

YSL exhibit at Petit Palais

I was overwhelmed by a black wall. It was covered with one of Yves Saint Laurent’s most famous creations, the black suit. Underneath each black suit was a light bulb that lit one at a time in order to help guide the viewer’s eye. This served as the most important part of the entire exhibit for me. As it made me realize the significance of YSL’s signature black suit. He was able to take a black suit away from the typical and boring, and turn it into art. I observed the light bulb as it guided me through a whole wall full of different variations of a black suit, each one with its own twist. Yves Saint Laurent was about taking something that was supposed to blend in and making it stand out. More importantly, Saint Laurent taught me what no fashion design class could teach me: the purpose of fashion is to take something as universal as clothing and use personality to express a more noticeable look.

This exhibit I saw in Paris and it changed the way I look at fashion forever.

What do you think of YSL?

Blake Lively : Vogue's Best Dressed

Blake Lively has been granted a spot on Vogue's Best Dressed list of 2010. She manages to take high fashion risks while still staying true to her effortless and playful style. No matter what she is wearing she consistently shows up in a tasteful and well put together outfit. Here are some of my favorite outfits of her's.

I love the tights in this look it adds                     She knows how to rock a leather
texture to the outfit.                                                jacket! (not crazy about scarf...burberry
print is classic but is overdone)

She rocks the skirt look in two different ways. One more youthful and trendy, the other
more sexy.

I love the blue pants. The blue pants are unexpected and keep her look fresh and new. They add personal style and a pop of color to the outfit. The grey coat and scarf compliment the blue pants and allow her to pull off the  look with class. This trend is something I want to try myself...thanks for the inspiration blake!

Do you think Blake is enough of a "fashionista" to set trends or do you think she follows them?
