New School Recollection Exhibit
The Recollection exhibit is different than the other galleries at our school because it is made up of various artists in the New School’s art collection rather than current student work. Each piece was picked due to its relevance in modern society. I personally enjoyed the idea of looking at a dated piece of art that could challenge me to think about today’s issues and conflicts. One concept I found pretty cohesive in the collection was the idea of change. I found the most obvious representation of change was demonstrated by the work of Carrie Mae Weems and Renee Cox. Weems’ Black Boy Said shows a young black boy feeling out of place in a white world. Take a step to the next piece Liberty in South Bronx by Renee Cox and you are looking at a black woman displaying her pride in her heritage and race. These two pieces encouraged me to reflect on how the United States has changed over the years, and how I would like it to continue to evolve and change. Weems, Cox, and the other artists in this exhibit represented new perspectives and forced me to digest their work with an open, exploratory mind. This recollection of art proved that a powerful piece can depict a message that will continue to be relatable throughout future social and political controversies.

My fall shoe must haves
TOMS:
The Row has teamed up with TOMs and i love that I can get a comfortable and still fashion forward shoe.

FLATS:
My new go to flats are the Sam Edelman Adena flats in black. I love that they are untraditional and add some variety and trendiness to my flat collection.

BOOTS:
My favorite fall shoe is the rag and bone Durham Boot. The color is easy to work with and and the boot has a feminine touch that is not found in all ankle booties.
Also a great way to wear your fall shoes is with a Burgundy or dark ted tight.
fall nail polish
I love the Chanel Graphite nail polish it looks metal like on and gives your nails a subtle edge. I like that it looks like different shades in different lights.

McQueen
I just saw the McQueen exhibit at the Met today and loved the idea of the spray painted dress and the chess board fashion show representing a chess game of Japan vs. US. Watch this video to see both.

Icons and Designers
After reading an interview on style.com about the Olsen twins their professional attitude and seriousness in their craft were brought to my attention. Handling both the financial and creative sides of several fashion labels, the two have accomplished more than meets the eye. After looking further into Elizabeth and James and The Row I found many of the items wearable and stylish. I love the clean cut, sleek and minimalist feel of some items as well as the accessibility and effortless look of style. I will definitely be adding some of these pieces to my wardrobe. Here are some of my favorite looks from Elizabeth and James.
